The Vision

Walking Safari

Step out of the safari vehicle and experience Tanzania on foot with expert guides who bring tracks, plants, birds, and wildlife signs into clear focus.

A walking safari Tanzania offers a slower, more intimate way to experience Tanzania's wilderness. Away from the vehicle, you tune in to the tracks, scents, sounds, and small details that bring the bush to life.

Led by qualified walking guides, these walks take place only in selected safari areas where walking is permitted, including parts of Tarangire, Lake Manyara, the Ngorongoro highlands, and private or community-managed wilderness areas near the national parks.

This experience works especially well alongside game drives, adding a deeper understanding of animal behaviour, birdlife, medicinal plants, insects, and the ecology that supports Tanzania's famous big game.

Whether you are a first-time visitor or a seasoned safari-goer, a walking safari Tanzania adds a new dimension to your Tanzania adventure, allowing you to connect with the environment on foot.

Pre-walk briefing

Pre-walk briefing

Your walking safari begins with a safety briefing before you leave camp or the designated meeting point. The guide explains how to move quietly, where to walk in relation to the guide, and what to do if wildlife is encountered. This sets the pace for a calm, respectful experience on foot.

Step into the bush

Step into the bush

Once on the trail, the focus shifts from covering distance to noticing detail. Tracks in the dust, broken branches, bird calls, dung, insects, and plant life all become part of the story. Walking slowly helps guests understand the wilderness beyond the larger animals usually seen from a safari vehicle.

Read the signs of wildlife

The guide uses fresh tracks, scent markings, feeding signs, and alarm calls to explain how animals move through the landscape. Encounters are managed carefully and from a safe distance, with emphasis on awareness rather than pursuit. This is where the bush begins to feel connected and alive.
